Developing strategic social media plans
Where to start? I know what needs to be done, but need some help getting it down on paper. Particularly interested in how social media is being used to further traditional public relations campaign aims.

How do we best use twitter, facebook, and other social tools for less-sexy industry associations, nonprofits, and government agencies?
I read a really cool article today on Read Write Web on the Meta-Activism Project -- http://bit.ly/bceMCu. I'd love to hear more about the Project from Mary Joyce.
Would love to hear ideas from others on B2B social media best practices.

1)How to build and integrate community on an ecommmerce site. 2) How to monetize that community beyond the products you already sell.

Community can exist across a variety of sites. But there is more to it than just being on Facebook, Twitter, etc. There are definitely times when it makes sense for a company to build their own community. A few reasons might be exclusivity, in-depth discussions, ability to track and really determine ROI, integration with loyalty programs, etc. I'd love to have an open discussion about branded communities and hear your ...more »

I'd love to have an open discussion about branded communities and hear your thoughts on when it makes sense and when it doesn't, as well as share some examples of who's doing it right.

Lots of people talk about engagement. We engage citizens, we engage communities, we engage government. Or do we? Is building a website that attracts 10 ideas from the public "engagement"? Is a Facebook page that people "fan" but don't follow engaging? Is socializing at events like SMC, in peson, engagement? What if you attend an event and keep in touch with people after, was that more engaging? I think there ...more »

Discussion of social media can often descend into inside baseball. Even the term itself has become dulled by hype. Discussion of social media can often descend into inside baseball. Even the term itself has become dulled by hype. Given the pressing need for digital literacy in DC, how could the club leverage collaborative technology and the engaged local community for social change? (RWW has some dated but good suggestions: http://www.readwriteweb.com/archives/how_to_use_social_media_for_social_change.php)

I'm interested in how people are measuring/tracking the success of their social media, including how they defined success and what tools are being used.

Other social media sites, such as Friendfeed (I know, now owned by Facebook), bookmarking sites like Digg, sites based on a particular demographic, Foursquare, etc. What's their value? Are they worth using? What're the drawbacks?
What experience and knowledge do you need to work in social media? Where do you find social media focused jobs?

What will social media look like 2, 5 and 10 years from now? What comes after twitter, facebook, gowalla, ignite, etc?
This is my suggestion for the future meetings
What technology, vendors, planning can help created events with particpates engaging locally and remotely. My company, the AIA, is looking at a hybrid conference as a way to build a national dialogue with our members at the chapter level. I'd love to hear good and horrible stories.
Hi everyone! Please include your name, Twitter and/or e-mail so we can contact you with questions on your ideas. Encourage others to share!
Thanks,
